Holman the Greenhanded

Holman the Greenhanded
A distant ancestor of Sam Gamgee.
Sam Gamgee's ancestor, who seems to have founded the tradition of gardening in Hobbiton that was carried on by his great-grandson Hamfast Gamgee and Hamfast's own son, Sam himself. Holman founded a family of gardeners who took their surname from his nickname: the Greenhands. It was through Holman's grandson and namesake Holman Greenhand that Hamfast came to Hobbiton from Tighfield, and turned his hand to the family tradition of gardening.
